Maha Govt To Recheck ‘Ladki Bahin’ Beneficiaries Amid Eligibility Concerns: Bawankule
Nagpur: Revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Monday said the state govt would conduct a fresh scrutiny of beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin scheme following allegations that several ineligible applicants received benefits under the flagship welfare programme.Speaking to reporters, the Kamptee MLA said some beneficiaries had already been removed after discrepancies surfaced during verification. He added that a committee-led review would be undertaken to ensure that eligible women were not deprived of assistance. His remarks came amid reports that around 80 lakh women were found ineligible for the scheme after the deadline for e-KYC compliance. Opposition parties have criticised the move, alleging that the BJP-led govt was reducing the beneficiary base because of financial constraints.Bawankule also criticised Congress legislature party leader Vijay Wadettiwar, saying the party should address dissatisfaction within its own ranks before targeting the govt. Referring to reports of unrest among Congress municipal representatives, he said the party needed to introspect. On women's reservation, Bawankule accused Congress of not fully backing the Women's Reservation Bill, alleging that its stand weakened efforts to expand women's political representation.
Responding to remarks by Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bawankule said Modi continued to enjoy public support because of his focus on national interest, development and the goal of making India a developed nation. The Ladki Bahin scheme has emerged as one of the Mahayuti govt's key welfare initiatives and figured prominently in the ruling alliance's outreach campaign ahead of the 2024 Assembly elections.
